These are so spot-on. I’m happy I came around to these conclusions on my own, but it took me 29 years (so, 7 after college) to get there.

Don’t worry about making your dreams come true
Make friends
Don’t worry about being single
Don’t take your ideas about gender and marriage too seriously
Think hard about whether to buy a house
Think even harder about having kids
Remember: If you change your mind, you’re still right!
Listen when people point out your privilege
Make allies and, yes, change the world.

I feel like lots of people poo-poo Peggy because she’s not as traditionally attractive as most of the other women on the show. I think it’s completely subconcious. I have a lot of feelings about this that can’t fit in a tumblr reply.

Yes! That’s sort of where my thought process led me, too - which is why it really bugs me coming from my boyfriend, who usually isn’t like this. Then again, we usually only watch comedies and the Daily Show, so there isn’t that much to say about it. I kind of like that she’s not conventionally pretty, and a little more “real.” Maybe some of her decisions in this season don’t make a ton of sense because the character hasn’t been developed that fully yet? Or maybe I just want to like her more because she isn’t conventionally attractive?

Am I overthinking this for only having just finished Season 1? I should stick to comedies, I think.

Mad Men Season 1 - yes that’s only how far I am.

My boyfriend has (what I think is) an irrational dislike for Peggy. She annoys me, but he gets more judgey of her for, like, everything she does, and I’m consistently saying “but what about that guy? what about him? he started it! he’s the married one!” but it’s still Peggy that bugs him. I’ve accused it of being because he doesn’t find her attractive, but he insists that’s not it. I can tell you, part of the reason I can’t stand Pete is because I actually don’t like his face, but also he just is a major douche.

And now with this new development at the end of season 1, he’s all “how did she not know?” so i totally turned it into “the 60s were different, it still happens today, etc” Also - of course she was in denial.

I have no idea why his dislike of Peggy irks me so much. I guess, everyone else just seems so much worse than she does.

I just needed to get that out here where someone would know what I’m talking about. I’m afraid my boyfriend is being sexist toward a fictional character that isn’t especially likeable but I just wish he would actively hate other characters as much as he hates her, and I could feel better about it.
